The Mighty Missouri Excursion

Woke up at 8am this morning to the sounds of Clare mowing the lawn with the ride-on (other folks 'roun' here refer to it as they' day car.) I've added photographic proof to show that it was actually in working condition before Tim got on.
Here is Clare actually mowing over the bar-b-cue and knocking it off the mounting bricks that Tim so carefully set up on day one.

Here is the machine just before it never started again. Nevermind, it's in the shed being fixed to within an inch of its life.

Later that morning, we took a drive over to Glasgow. This is a port town on the mighty Missouri River and the scene of an American Civil War battle.

We stopped and looked around the old ferry landing site to read through the account of the battle. As we waited, a tug came up the river pushing a large load of gravel.

I tried to buy a postcard for the tennis guys back home because Jack made me promise to send a card from overseas. I walked up to Henderson's Drug Store because on the side wall, they advertised that they had Hallmark greeting cards for sale.

I went in to the store and looked around. The front part of the store was like the soda counter from Happy Days. They have the rounded 1960's stools and the metal top counter ready to serve sodas or milk shakes at the counter. There are also the booths down the middle of the store for those who want the table service experience. They asked if I needed some assistance and, when I told them I was looking for postcards, they could not understand me. "Postcards" a second time did not help. Then a fake American accented "Postcarrrrds" finally got the understanding through.

Well, they used to have postcards but now they don't. Maybe the centre across the road. Went across the road and had the same issue. Fake American accent once again came in to save the day. We went to a more cosmopolitan looking shop on the other side of town (round the corner - 300 meters away) and they did not have no postcards neither. So I bought a "Happy 7th Birthday Young Man" card and posted that off to Australia. Jack and the boys will just have to be happy with the sentiment.

We visited the Fish Beak Saloon - well it was 2pm in the afternoon and the girl had just driven up to open up for the day. They had an interesting game (shown below) where the running board has sand scattered on the runway and there are heavy coloured disks which easily glide over the top of the sand. Much like lawn bowls or a variation of indoor bowls - I'm guessing.
