Day 13 - Heading back to Hooterville

Woke this morning, showered, packed and walked down to the Amsterdam Deli.

Taxied to the airport (everyone says that is the cheapest and most reliable) but the traffic was diabolical. We took 20 mins to get from La Guardia to the hotel on Monday. We thought same + 10 to make us an hour early for the flight was enough. Some roadworks near the airport. Needless to say (it as like bumper to bumper from Taren Point to the airport in Sydney) the blockage was 500m from the airport!

We arrived just as our flight was leaving.

They put us on standby (no charge) and we caught the next plane and hoped that we could still make the connection in Chicago. I went ahead while Tim trailed behind (maddeningly) and we just made the flight.  As I write, his bag is still on the way. (***)Saturday morning update - bag is still on the way.

Made it to Kansas and Clare picked us up for the long drive home.

As it was so late when we got home, we walked up to the Grapevine for dinner (a whole 150 meters.) On the way, we were passed by a lady driving another vehicle variation. The second photo was another one on the way home. Note, this is 8pm and 9pm respectively. (note the lighting)

We sat down and were waited on by Donny's mother. She is a beautiful person and so ditsy. We had a (HHHHUUUUUUGGGGGGGEEEEEEEE) meal for $10/head. Tim and Clare had steak and I had Catfish!

And baked potato

And salad (remember - no dish cannot be improved without the addition of cheese))

And fettuccini alfredo (you don't get no choice - it comes anyway)

And sweet bread rolls

Oh, and a little packet of crackers that they crumble onto their soups and salads

We then went to Donny's Man Cave for the rest of the evening.

  1. I thought only Huck Finn ate catfish! What's it like?
From NY to Hooterville - are you Oliver and Tim Lisa or vice versa?

  2. The catfish was a very flat, thin (white fish) fillet cooked in a hard crumbed coating. Consistency not unlike dory. I don't think it is an "either / or" situation. AnywayTim's a little more like a cross between Eb and Mr Haney (Ohhhh - now you've got to look it up!)
