Woke up about 7.30am after an evening at the Man Cave. Donny's nephew was particularly taken with our travel experience - he's been to most of the states in America (possibly even the altered ones)

Went for a walk around the neighbourhood again. It appears that this is Flag Day.

Walking down the other road, I went past the local school. This imposing structure is the elementary school section with the Boy Scout donated imitation Statue of Liberty. In the building next door. there are air conditioners hanging out of every window - the Slater Secondary School.

In the car park next to the buildings are the school buses. These look the same as all other school buses we've seen across our travels here. There is also the gridiron tackling dummy. Outdoor signage for schools seems to take the same vein as the signage for all businesses - less is more. (With some of them, "nothing is everything")

I also walked past a vacant lot where some guy had pulled up his truck, set up a table as was selling his mom's farm produce cause her MS is acting up on her today. I bought some broccoli and a cucumber for $2.50.
Walked past a sad looking bake sale and bought 2 pumpkin muffins for $1. They were very caramel-ey and still warm in the sealed plastic bag. Only had 1/2 of one but it was very rich and very nice.

We were going to have Jerry and Laura over for lunch. We bought some steaks at Glasgow yesterday and wanted to have ourselves a good ol' bar-b-cue. Difficult assignment seeing that Jerry has no teeth and years of chawing at tobacco have left his jaw bone unable to support false teeth. Laura dropped around some pork steaks for them to have and we had the steaks.

Next door neighbour, Sam, meanwhile invited us into his basement to see some of his work. Hi wife is one of those demanding women with a never ending list of jobs and a hawking voice. More than once over the week were entertained by the shrill echoes of, "SAM!! Wher' you at?"
Pictures below:

Note the hand saw and the set square in the last picture. There is a bootle cap to give an indication of the scale size. Everything except the trees and the animals has been hand made by Sam over long winters of hiding in the cellar.

Just after lunch, Donny came over for a brief visit. He had a pecan pie that was given to him by his neighbour. (Donny mows her extensive lawn for her and she bakes for him to say thanks.)
Sue, you'd love this pie. It has a thin crust, layer of apples on the bottom and the caramel pecan topping. Very nice - Jerry had to have a piece straight away.
That pie looks absolutely scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteThe school buses look just like the ones we see on TV.
I hope Sam has grandkids so someone can really appreciate his handiwork.
